I’m a committed joint smoker and have mostly seen cannabis oil as a fad – like e-cigarettes, a poor excuse for the real thing. But that just proves my naivety. After spending over a week with Legion of Bloom’s Heirloom Highland Thai cartridge, I can say that this is a compelling experience – and one that every cannabis user should try for themselves.
It won’t taste or smell like burnt flowers, or even vaporized buds, but that doesn’t mean it will be any less enjoyable or intense. In fact, it can get you where you want to be faster than anything else. Just watch yourself with this stuff. It’s potent with 77.62 percent THC and you can barely feel your lungs filling up. The intoxicating euphoria can turn to cloudiness over the course of an afternoon.
While there is no indication of it being sativa on the packaging, Heirloom Highland Thai is a sativa strain native to Northern Thailand and considered part of the ancient cannabis gene pool. Two deep pulls on the pen for a heavy user like me caused a subtle head thrust. A third long pull caused a nice creative and active mood for about 30 minutes to an hour. Occasionally, smaller tows held this level for several hours – as long as I didn’t go overboard.
Most of the days I was using this cartridge I felt positive and wanted to do something so I went for a jog. I had great focus and my lungs felt better because the vapor is less harsh than smoke.
Legion uses a solvent-free carbon dioxide extract and high-quality terpenes for its oil, which is packaged in glass and metal with a spiral heater. This provides a more natural taste and that is clearly visible in the Pear Herer cartridge from Gold Drop. Wrapped in plastic with a wick heater, the solvent-free oil was too strong and fake-tasting and much less potent than Legion’s. And glass, metal and coil turned out to be much better in another cartridge: Girl Scout Cookies from Absolute Xtracts.
Glass and metal cartridge
Dashing, lively, creative, focused, positive
sweet but bland
Mild, sweet, slightly grassy
Stress relief, headache, anxiety
Recommended over plastic cartridges. It’s a quality effect and a pleasant experience, although prolonged use left a strange aftertaste – not so much a chemical taste, but clearly you are not vaping or smoking real flowers.
